Are These Top Online Psychology Degrees For You?
Why pursue online psychology degrees? Do you end up just as capable as the guy who earned his degree on campus? Definitely! Assuming of course, that you've done your homework in choosing which school to enroll in and found one that is, at the least, accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
Online Is The Way To Go
Here's the thing: education costs. But if you want an edge when competing for a good-paying job, a good education is what you need. You not only have knowledge but a set of skills that increase your market value. Now, thanks to technology, particularly computers and the internet, you can earn a degree without ever setting foot on a school campus.
What's the advantage with online psychology degrees programs? See if these three are good enough reasons to convince you to go this route:
1. Convenience. Unless your folks are there to support your education, you probably have a job. And other priorities, like family. No need to give these up with online education. Your classroom is wherever you want it: at home, at work, at the park or a cafe. Set your own schedule for studying. And go at your own pace. If you're motivated enough, you can even complete your degree, whether it's a bachelor or masters in psychology, which are both available online, faster than the timetable given.
2. Cost. Without the overhead for classrooms, electricity, facilities, materials and even faculty, schools generate a lot of savings. They pass it on to students by cutting tuition. A masters degree in psychology can be quite expensive but if you want a good paying career after, you need the investment. If online psychology degrees can reduce your school expenses by 40%, wouldn't you take it? Besides, you already do away with transportation costs for traveling to school, so that's savings, too.
3. Value. Let's make this clear: Completing accredited online psychology degrees means the quality of your education is equal to one gained from a traditional university. Accreditation assures you of a standard quality accepted by the industry. It's increasing your stock as a potential employee. There is obviously little contest to speak of between those without formal education at all and those with online psychology degrees, when it comes to who gets the position.
Making a choice
Once you've settled on an online education, it's time to search for the top online psychology degrees. While many colleges and universities now offer online versions of their campus courses, not many will have all degree programs available. So it pays for you to decide on your goal, specifically what you want to concentrate on, before beginning your search.
Not all psychology graduate schools offering online programs start at the bachelor's level. Argosy University has three Bachelor of Arts in Psychology programs: one focusing on Substance Abuse and the other on Organizational Psychology, the latter of which prepares you for entry-level management or leadership positions in any organization. The third is a general psychology program.
Kaplan University, Walden University and University of Maryland University College are among other schools with an online bachelor's program in psychology.
There are at some 50 online psychology degrees on the masters level offered by at least 10 schools. The most popular among them are the Master of Arts or Master of Science in General Psychology. The second most offered psychology degrees are specializations in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Leadership Development and Coaching. There are also offerings for Sports Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Child Development and Clinical Psychology, as well as more specialized areas like Terrorism and Security and Career Management and Counseling. While many opt to complete a doctorate degree in psychology, you can find rewarding careers even with a masters. What can you do with a masters in psychology? Teach, do research, and counseling are the three more popular occupations although many other industries can make use of your expertise.
At the doctorate level, you may choose from at least 10 online psychology degrees, mostly from the same schools. The University of the Rockies offers the most programs with eight.
Another advantage of online schools is their multiple campuses. They may be headquartered in California, but still have campuses located in Florida or Chicago making them even more accessible.
Whether you finish a campus-based program or online psychology degrees, it is what you do with it after that will ultimately spell your success.
